Combining flawless esthetic sensibility with exceptional technical skill, Klaus Lucka’s film, television and photography work has been commissioned by leading corporations and advertising agencies around the world. Not only has his work won award after award, it has proved itself by delivering commercial success after success. It also takes a special touch to photograph and film the famous, and the list of celebrities who have posed for Klaus is equally impressive, including Jack Nicholson on numerous occasions for magazine covers, Sting, Mohammed Ali and many others.
Klaus Lucka’s career began in his native Germany, when at the age of sixteen, he was asked to photograph Marlene Dietrich for a fragrance advertising campaign for the esteemed Parisian couture house Nina Ricci. He set off for North America four years later, and over the next seven years built an impressive portfolio for leading magazines and advertisers in Canada.
New York City was the next logical step. Upon his arrival, Klaus rapidly established his world-class reputation in beauty, fashion, advertising and editorial, with major clients.
His painterly, sensual, seemingly effortless images belie Klaus’ meticulous engineering. He has even built his own cameras to capture seemingly impossible shots. His move into directing television led to award-winning spots.
Moving to Los Angeles in the late 1980’s, he continued his success. In 1992, Japan’s Amlux Theater in Tokyo chose Klaus from 500 directors worldwide to produce and direct their innovative 20-minute interactive sensory-enhanced documentary, “SideTracked”. The production broke all previous attendance records.
As Klaus explores and develops multi-media art forms, he has mastered the tools of the Internet, approaching each new project with an integrated viewpoint that anticipates all the possibilities. Over the past fifteen years, Klaus has innovated, designed and beta-tested intercommunication and interactive software. Leading marketing and communications agencies access him to advise on new marketing approaches via the World Wide Web.
Klaus continues to push the envelope, adopting ‘reality TV’ techniques to successful award-winning campaigns for leading Ohio retailer Stein Mart; and medical documentaries developed directly for Internet broadcast. His most recent endeavor in the exploration of innovative photography techniques is the artistic use of a custom built panorama camera. It is this style which he would like to push further into the creation of a children’s book series with the story lines unfolding in a continuous time lapse of images.
Klaus Lucka currently lives in New York City.
